Sun’s Up - Bar Down!

I told the property owner that our family was looking for some downtime together. Boy, did we get that. Our family of three just returned home from a 3 night stay. The home is welcoming, well-designed, and spotless. It has everything a family might need for a vacation. We cooked all of our meals there. Such a nice new kitchen! We had our morning coffee on the front porch, and meals in the dining area and large, lovely enclosed screened porch. Lovely, large renovated bathrooms with large showers . There's an outside shower too to get the sand off! The hot tub was wonderful, especially on cool nights. We walked down to the nearby beaches every day. We swam, watched the sunsets, and walked by the lake shore. Beach towels, chairs, boogie boards and noodles are in the basement for use and we were thankful for that. On that note, be sure to check out all of the fun stuff in basement - pool table, foosball, video games, etc. I would definitely stay here again. This was absolutely the perfect house for a weekend getaway! The owner was beyond amazing with immediate responses to questions. The house had everything you could possibly think of from a hot tub, game room downstairs, multiple tvs, board games, towels, dishes, smore kits etc. House was spotless and in great condition with tons of room to hang out and lounge, inside or outside. The location was also fabulous and walkable to the beach, grocery store, coffee shop, and ice cream store...all the essentials! An easy drive from Chicago and the perfect getaway weekend! This house is wonderful for a group of people. It's rare to stay in a rental where you actually feel at home and Bernadette has done a tremendous job of creating an environment where a guest immediately feels at ease. In terms of amenities, everything you could ever need is available and within arms reach. The kitchen was fully stocked with every appliance necessary. Towels are available in abundance. The beds are all extremely comfortable. Lastly, the basement game room is an absolute ball! I don't think I need to explain how nice the hot tub is. Staying at Suns Up, Bar Down is an absolute must if you are coming to the New Buffalo or Union Pier area. You can't do much better than this place. What a lovely home this is. We were renting for only a few days as we were in town for a family wake/service nearby. We were not surprised as the photos in this website accurately describes the house and honestly it is even more lovelier in person. It is spotless, roomy, cozy and super quiet. We loved hanging out on the porch having coffee in the morning or drinks in the evening. The beds were super comfortable and all of the linens were fresh and perfectly laundered. We would have loved to stay longer but will definitely be back soon to enjoy this little retreat. We didn’t have the opportunity to use the jacuzzi or the fire pit but have something to look forward to when we come back! It was so nice to relax with my family together. Sun's Up-Bar Down was the perfect location for a weekend getaway from Chicago. We were a group of five couples looking to get out of the city and this was the perfect location to do it! Wonderful Family Get Together Sun's up Bar Down is everything we could have asked for. We were getting together for some much needed family time after not seeing each other since Christmas of 2019. First Bernadette and Lisa were amazing. They were so helpful with all of our questions and all their recommendations were on point. They are easily accessible and respond in a very timely manner. The house was spotless and looked exactly like the posting. We had people of all ages in our group and this house and location accommodated everyone. We spent every morning and late evening on the beautiful front porch. The yard is very nice and we played bags and kids could run around. The hot tub was a hit with all since we were there in early June and nights were still chilly. The water is about a 10min walk actually but very nice. If you do have older persons in your party just be advised there are quit a bit of stairs down to the beach so just takes a little extra time. The beach was quiet and not over crowded when we went and water was so clear. The small market store at the end of the street was stocked with soo much more than we thought and we really were able to pick up little things we might have needed from there. If not New Buffalo is a 10min drive at most that has a grocery store. We rented bikes from the shop at the end of the street as well and road the back roads into New Buffalo along the lake and seeing all the beautiful houses. Is only about a 20-25min easy and nice ride into New Buffalo where we grabbed some ice cream or you could get a bite at the Stray Dog. The fire pit was great a night and the pool table, and games down in the basement were a hit with the kids. Overall this was a wonderful trip for us and the house was great. The house was perfect for our mini family reunion vacation! We loved being able to cook breakfast in the morning together, kids running around in the yard, sitting around the fire at night or playing pool or sitting in the hot tub. It was a little further walk to the beach for us since we had strollers we didn't go down the stairs, which are a lot closer. For years, the boys lived a fast paced lifestyle. A new city every weekend, a different club every night. Fast forward to 2023 and we were looking for a change of pace. Enter this beautiful Union Pier property. The house and property were exquisitely maintained and ready for us upon arrival. Communication was excellent from the beginning. The home was outfitted with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing trip to a small beach town. It was extremely easy to pop down the road for food or a walk, and the local public beach access was beautifully kept and a short walk the other way. Our only complaint was cleanliness: the home did not meet our expectations for cleanliness of floors and there were a significant number of ants and spiders who found us to be a nuisance to their typical activities. This is somewhat to be expected, seasonally and in a home that isn't occupied all the time, but it did make the stay a little less enjoyable for us. We have a lovely stay over a weekend in June for a family reunion. The house is about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the public beach. Union Pier is a very quiet area but not far from New Buffalo with restaurants and a big grocery store if needed. The house had everything we needed. Evenings in the hot tub and s’mores at the fire pit. Did not have to travel too far for shopping or ice cream. The kids loved the basement full of toys and games. Nice storage in kitchen. Communication was excellent from the beginning. The home was outfitted with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing trip to a small beach town. It was extremely easy to pop down the road for food or a walk, and the local public beach access was beautifully kept and a short walk the other way. Our only complaint was cleanliness: the home did not meet our expectations for cleanliness of floors and there were a significant number of ants and spiders who found us to be a nuisance to their typical activities. This is somewhat to be expected, seasonally and in a home that isn't occupied all the time, but it did make the stay a little less enjoyable for us. Overall, it was a good place to spend a few days away from real life.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Such a beautiful home we have already booked for next year. Thank you for the delicious pie and checking in with us during our stay. We were greeted by a male and female Cardinal when we arrived in the sunroom. My niece said it was my parents who used to come to Union Pier with us ??. The outdoor space was wonderful, which is where we spent most of our time. Lots of laughter, good food, and memories made??. Until next year……

The house was spacious and beautiful. The giant basement with pool table and tv center was A+ The outdoor yard space was perfect for after dinner gathering! A short stroll to a wonderful beach. Located within walking distance to a fabulous bakery and neighborhood grocery/beverage store. Just a few minutes from New Buffalo, Warren Dunes and many other area attractions. Guest/owner communications were excellent.

Bernadette was incredibly accommodating of our large group and was very easy to get a hold of if we had any questions! The property was clean, close to the beach, and very enjoyable. Would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in New Buffalo who needs space for their group!

For years, the boys lived a fast paced lifestyle. A new city every weekend, a different club every night. Fast forward to 2023 and we were looking for a change of pace. Enter this beautiful Union Pier property. The house and property were exquisitely maintained and ready for us upon arrival. Our resident bougie boy (let’s call him Shawn) even remarked upon the quality of the stay. All in all, this was a five star experience and would recommend to anyone looking for a getaway. If you don’t wanna work and just bang on the drum all day, this is the place!

Great property. Plenty of room for family of 10 with kids. Kitchen stocked with more tools than my house! Great screened porch. We loved our time at Sun's Up - Bar Down! The house was lovely, and well-suited for multiple families and different age ranges. It was a kids' (and parents) dream in terms of games and activities - Bernadette literally thought of everything. We also appreciated the little extras - amazing sheets and towels, hand soap in every bathroom, and a pie to welcome us! The outdoor spaces and screened in porch were my favorites - with ample room for play and relaxation. The beach was a short walk too, which was great. We can't wait to come back!

We had a great stay! The house was well equipped for our family vacation. Very short walk to the beach and to the little town. Easy drive to New Buffalo, as well. We had a couple rainy days but the house had plenty to do for the kids to stay entertained. We also enjoyed the fire pit at night.

We had four couples and two of our grown daughters for a weekend and we couldn’t have been happier! Beautiful home, comfortable, clean with lots to do at the house and in the area. The hot tub was perfect, the basement had some fun games, the kitchen is well appointed and the bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect. We all wished we would have had more time and hope to be back again. We even enjoyed a couple walks to Lake Michigan in the winter.

Three couples shared this perfect space for our annual union pier book club. The home was perfect with three queen or king bedrooms, a large living room for our book discussion over appetizers and a well equipped kitchen for cooking meals as a group. Had a great time at this property. The house was clean and spacious and the hot tub and fire pit in the back were a huge hit. This was our second stay at this house. We love the spaciousness of the entire house, but especially the screened in porch and kitchen. It is not cluttered with decorative items, but instead has room for our things throughout. We also love the pool table in the basement, hot tub and the short walk to Townline Beach.

Great area in the basement for rainy days or evening, pool, foosball, air hockey, video games. Can accommodate a large group. We loved to hang out on the large front porch in the evening. Close to the Black Currant Bakehouse and a number of restaurants and an ice cream shop.

We spent about a week with kids, parents and grandparents. The house was great and full of activities. We dined in the evenings on the screen porch and walked to the beach during the day. We also enjoyed the hot tub and games in the basement. It was a great week at a wonderful house.

We had a great trip and the house is nicely updated as well. Have rented a few houses in area before and while updated house is not necessity for beach trip, it was a nice added bonus when a lot of the rentals are dated. Communication with owner was also very easy.

Highly Recommend this property for many types of getaways from a girls weekend to family vacation. The house was fully stocked with everything you needed including games both inside and outside, books, toys, videos and stuff for the beach. The house was perfect for our mini family reunion vacation! We loved being able to cook breakfast in the morning together, kids running around in the yard, sitting around the fire at night or playing pool or sitting in the hot tub. It was a little further walk to the beach for us since we had strollers we didn't go down the stairs, which are a lot closer. It's walking distance to so much and easy access to getting around to other sights. Bernadette was incredibly responsive and prompt and helpful! Highly recommend staying here.

Sun's up Bar Down is everything we could have asked for. We were getting together for some much needed family time after not seeing each other since Christmas of 2019. First Bernadette and Lisa were amazing. They were so helpful with all of our questions and all their recommendations were on point. They are easily accessible and respond in a very timely manner. The house was spotless and looked exactly like the posting. We had people of all ages in our group and this house and location accommodated everyone. We spent every morning and late evening on the beautiful front porch. The yard is very nice and we played bags and kids could run around. The hot tub was a hit with all since we were there in early June and nights were still chilly. The water is about a 10min walk actually but very nice. If you do have older persons in your party just be advised there are quit a bit of stairs down to the beach so just takes a little extra time. The beach was quiet and not over crowded when we went and water was so clear. The small market store at the end of the street was stocked with soo much more than we thought and we really were able to pick up little things we might have needed from there. If not New Buffalo is a 10min drive at most that has a grocery store. We rented bikes from the shop at the end of the street as well and road the back roads into New Buffalo along the lake and seeing all the beautiful houses. Is only about a 20-25min easy and nice ride into New Buffalo where we grabbed some ice cream or you could get a bite at the Stray Dog. The fire pit was great a night and the pool table, and games down in the basement were a hit with the kids. Overall this was a wonderful trip for us and the house was great. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Sun's Up-Bar Down was the perfect location for a weekend getaway from Chicago. We were a group of five couples looking to get out of the city and this was the perfect location to do it! The house is just a short walk from the lake, and also in close proximity to restaurants, wineries, and breweries! The hot tub and outdoor fire pit were a big hit with our group! We rented the property for a low-key bachelorette party for my sister. The house was perfect! Adorable, beach-like house nestled in the woods by the beach! Who would have thought!?! Located within 20 minutes of a bunch of wineries and the downtown area. It had all the comforts of home and then some! Definitely would go back!

What a lovely home this is. We were renting for only a few days as we were in town for a family wake/service nearby. We were not surprised as the photos in this website accurately describes the house and honestly it is even more lovelier in person. It is spotless, roomy, cozy and super quiet. We loved hanging out on the porch having coffee in the morning or drinks in the evening. The beds were super comfortable and all of the linens were fresh and perfectly laundered. We would have loved to stay longer but will definitely be back soon to enjoy this little retreat. We didn’t have the opportunity to use the jacuzzi or the fire pit but have something to look forward to when we come back! It was so nice to relax with my family together. Thank you for that special time.

This house is wonderful for a group of people. It's rare to stay in a rental where you actually feel at home and Bernadette has done a tremendous job of creating an environment where a guest immediately feels at ease. In terms of amenities, everything you could ever need is available and within arms reach. The kitchen was fully stocked with every appliance necessary. Towels are available in abundance. The beds are all extremely comfortable. Lastly, the basement game room is an absolute ball! I don't think I need to explain how nice the hot tub is. Staying at Suns Up, Bar Down is an absolute must if you are coming to the New Buffalo or Union Pier area. You can't do much better than this place.

This was absolutely the perfect house for a weekend getaway! The owner was beyond amazing with immediate responses to questions. The house had everything you could possibly think of from a hot tub, game room downstairs, multiple tvs, board games, towels, dishes, smore kits etc. House was spotless and in great condition with tons of room to hang out and lounge, inside or outside. The location was also fabulous and walkable to the beach, grocery store, coffee shop, and ice cream store...all the essentials! An easy drive from Chicago and the perfect getaway weekend! I told the property owner that our family was looking for some downtime together. Boy, did we get that. Our family of three just returned home from a 3 night stay. The home is welcoming, well-designed, and spotless. It has everything a family might need for a vacation. We cooked all of our meals there. Such a nice new kitchen! We had our morning coffee on the front porch, and meals in the dining area and large, lovely enclosed screened porch. Lovely, large renovated bathrooms with large showers . There's an outside shower too to get the sand off! The hot tub was wonderful, especially on cool nights. We walked down to the nearby beaches every day. We swam, watched the sunsets, and walked by the lake shore. Beach towels, chairs, boogie boards and noodles are in the basement for use and we were thankful for that. On that note, be sure to check out all of the fun stuff in basement - pool table, foosball, video games, etc. I would definitely stay here again.
